The long-range vision of Motto LaGuardia Consultants is to become the most respected event and business
management consultancy company by consistently providing our clients with the best possible solutions to
your sports, entertainment, event and business management, marketing, and training needs.
Joe LaGuardia
Joe LaGuardia was the Director of Marketing for the New York State Fair -
one of the largest and most successful fairs in the country - for 32 years.
During his tenure, Joe was able to lead the Fair to record attendance
through his skill as a marketer and promoter. His responsibilities at the Fair
included statewide and regional public relations, promotions, and
marketing. Mr. LaGuardia was also responsible for all of the entertainment
negotiating, buying, booking, and advertising while overseeing a yearly
departmental budget of $5 million. Joe also worked with the Fair's
advertising agency in the development of each year's creative approach and
statewide media plan. He was also the primary media liaison and chief
spokesperson for the Fair.
Joe's extensive resume includes being the Director of Sales and Press
Relations for the Syracuse Eagles Professional Hockey Club, the Sales,
Promotion and Publicity Director for the Syracuse Blazers Hockey Club, an
Account Executive for an advertising agency, and a reporter for the Syracuse
Herald Journal (Post Standard) - the area's daily newspaper. Joe is currently
the Executive Director of the Syracuse Lakefront Development Corporation.
As the President and Board Member of a number of community organizations
and associations (Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame, Central New York
Arthritis Foundation, Bellevue Country Club), Joe is able to share his
expertise with the community in leadership roles.
As a member of the International Entertainment Buyers Association (IEBA),
the Academy of Country Music, and the International Association of Fairs
and Expositions (IAFE), Joe was not only able to expand his networking and
contact opportunities for the benefit of his organizations but was able to
share his expertise by conducting presentations and seminars concerning
various aspects of event management at the association conventions. Joe
has also been a Certified Fair Executive (CFE) since 1994.
Joe LaGuardia has been a valued, trusted, and contributing member of the
event management, marketing, and training communities for many years. He
is respected for his wise counsel and his honest way of dealing with people
and situations.
Bill Motto
Bill Motto is a business owner, community leader, educator, coach, event/tournament director,
and consultant who has over 30 years of experience running successful business, community,
college, and sports organizations and programs.
As President and CEO of W.T. Motto Building Products for 22 years, Bill was able to develop
marketing, financial, human resource, and training programs that were influential in the success
and growth of the business.
As the President of the Syracuse Sports Corporation (SSC) - Central New York's sports commission
- for the past 18 years, and as President of the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame as well as
being an Executive Board member of the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau, the American
Lung Association, et al., he has not only been able to give back to the community but has been
able to have the opportunity to lead these organizations in various important initiatives. Bill was
also able to gain a clearer understanding and appreciation of the value of volunteers and charitable
groups in the community.
As a college professor and the Director of the Sport Management Program at Cazenovia College,
he has been instrumental in teaching, training, and mentoring numerous college students toward
successful careers in business and sport management. Bill currently teaches business and
marketing courses at the State University of New York at Oswego and at Onondaga Community
College. He has also run many community forums and seminars as a professor and consultant.
Bill has coached at various levels and in a variety of sports (basketball, golf, baseball) for many
years - just recently completing a four-year stint as the Head Coach of the Cazenovia College
(NCAA D-III) Women's Basketball Program. He was also a golf coach and men's basketball coach -
both at the collegiate level. His understanding of sports and athletics has been a valuable asset for
his work in sport and event management.
Bill Motto has also had the opportunity to direct and manage two national professional golf tour
events - the MONY Syracuse Senior Golf Classic (of the Senior - now Champions - PGA Tour) and
the Syracuse FUTURES Golf Classic (of the LPGA-affiliated Duramed FUTURES women's professional
golf tour).
As an independent consultant, Bill has worked on a variety of community, business, and sports
events, projects, and initiatives that have enhanced the quality of life and the economic
development of Central New York. He has maintained affiliations with several national sport
management associations - the North American Society of Sport Management (NASSM) and the
National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) - while representing the community as
President of the Syracuse Sports Corporation.
Bill's attention to detail, research, and understanding of the various constituencies involved with
each project, and his "people first" management style have made each of these undertakings
successful.
Joe LaGuardia Selected as Edward J. Kearney Award Recipient
Joe LaGuardia was recently honored by the Blind Men and Criers (an
association of athletic officials and coaches) with the Edward J. Kearney
Award for being an individual who has given back to the community. The
award was presented at the organization's annual dinner meeting.
Bill Motto Part of Team of Distinction Inducted into College at Oneonta Athletics
Hall of Fame
Bill Motto was recently honored with induction into the College at Oneonta Athletics Hall of
Fame as a member of the 1976-77 Men's Basketball Team of Distinction. Bill served as the
Assistant Coach for the team that finished with an overall 22-5 record while getting to the NCAA
Division III Championship game.
